Match Reports- Gameweek 14

Men’s 1s

W2-1

Men’s 2s

For some stupid reason the Men’s 2s played Broxbourne today, despite the pitch being frozen solid! Unfortunately we were clearly not interested in playing hockey, and would have all much rather stayed in bed. Sadly the opposition did not have the same idea.

A disappointing performance from the team meant the largest loss of the season. Clearly time that we started playing some hockey again.

Mom: Matt Tanswell the least worst player

Pop: Ed Ed Bear Stubbing for apparently being a wuss and putting player safety above everything else

Men’s 3s

On a glorious sunny day in Witham the Men’s 3s took to field in conditions that were far from freezing.

The hockey that proceeded was amazing, great passing and attacking moves saw us go 3-0 up at half time, 2 calm finishes from Alex and a well taken goal for Zain. We expected a response from the home side in the second half but we still took the game to them, Alex completed his hat trick to cap off a great game and Jack finally got his goal.

Final score 5-2 to Forest!

Special mentions to Thomas who played well in goal, Steve Hare who played outfield and didn’t get injured, and Travis for stepping up and playing.

MOM – Alex for his hat trick

POP – Vinay for kit violations

Men’s 5s

The Men’s 5’s travelled to second in the table Witham for a lunch time push back and having missed training this week due to the weather the team were looking forward to their first run out in 2017. The game started with Witham having the upper hand in the first 20 mins or so and despite some excellent goal keeping from Shaun and some key tracking back from George, Witham took the lead with a breakaway goal down the left. 1-0 to Witham.

The 5’s then started to find their way and equalised with a strike from Mick Lane and ended the first half 1-1.

Unfortunately the final score did not represent the hockey played in the second half. The 5’s dominated for large parts and actually played some of our best hockey of the season but just couldn’t find the crucial strike required. Some excellent link up play in the centre/forward line from Eebbaa, Andrew, Gino, Mick and Aamir supported on the wings by Morgan, Steve and Biel meant the 5’s were camped in the Witham half for most of the second half.

As the game progressed, it started turn a little physical and The 5’s picked up a couple of unfortunate injuries which ultimately led to a 3-1 defeat.

On a personal note – if the 5’s manage to maintain that performance for the rest of the season then we can avoid relegation. The positives far outweighed the score line and very pleased that the Men’s 3’s got a win to even up the results on the day.

Otters

With few of the Otters having picked up a stick for over a month we unsurprisingly started slowly at second-placed Wapping and fell behind within 30 seconds of the start.
But once we gained our composure we became competitive, and the ever-threatening Irfan put us level to become joint-leading scorer for the season with 8 others.
We conceded 2 more just before half-time but battled well through the second half, Peter Walker defended resourcefully, last-minute stand-in keeper Martin from the 4s made some great stops, and Andy put in some good work in midfield as we let in only one more, to finish 4-1 losers.

At the heart of everything positive we did in defence and attack was the tireless Alastair, a worthy Man of the Match (following on from his Mann der Spiel performance as Teamer bizarrely called it in the friendly before Christmas.)

Scorer: Irfan Sajid.
