Gameweek 6- Match Reports

Ladies 1s

L1s won a game!! Hooray!! Blackheath started with the majority of the possession, spending a lot of time in our half but some hard work kept us in it and we slowly turned it round to start to get on top. A close half 0-0 at half time.

Second half we came out strong but unfortunately went 1-0 down to a penalty corner which ended up going in off Fish (apparently it’s not an own goal but it looked like one to me!).

We stepped up and won a short corner. A super ‘special’ was finished by Anna-Marie Parker who celebrated with a Ribena berry yelp.

We kept fighting and won another short which Lucy Butcher banged in from a straight strike. Final score 1-2.

Special thanks to manager Lucie Fish and our supporters.

MoM me!

DoD split between Fish for her non own goal and Faith for turning up an hour early.

Onwards and upwards!

Ladies 2s

L2s had one of their best games yet and continued their win with 3-1 against Wapping! Two minutes before the end of first half we were 1-0 down but earned two shorts back to back with Sarah Todd making the final one count going into the break 1-1. We came back super strong with lots of great triangles up the pitch, another cheeky goal from Kareen and a 2nd smasher from Sarah.

A tough match towards the end but we kept our formation and our heads(!) to stay on top. Brilliant team effort.

MOM to Anne for her stellar defending. POP to Dee for forgetting what side of the pitch she was on..plus we like her baking best.

Ladies 3s

Yesterday, the ladies 3s faced top-of-the-league Thurrock away at Palmer’s College. We played very well from the outset with strong, clever passing and tenacious defending. In the first half, particularly, we made some excellent and threatening attempts on goal. This seemed to rattle Thurrock somewhat and, to put it mildly, they left a lot be desired in the ‘sportsmanship’ stakes.

As a result of two flicks and a few short corners, and a couple of breaks, Thurrock won the match 7-0.

I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of Waltham Forest Hockey Club and captain of a lovely, friendly team with a fantastic attitude. MOM deservedly went to Martha. Special thanks also to Laura and Rosie for joining us from the 2s.

Ladies 4s

Ladies 4s took on Romford Ladies 2s today at home at Lee Valley and we only went and bloody won didn’t we…..an excellent performance, well done to goal scorers Jacqui and Georgina (and to those who set up those goals). Very proud of you all and you should be proud of yourselves too.

Men’s 3s

The men’s 3s drew 1-1 with Colchester in a game where we really should have won. A lot of the action happened in first half, the first 20 minutes of the game we were brilliant, lots of good passing moves. Dan and Nate combined brilliantly to get our goal with Nate reverse sweeping the ball into the bottom corner. Colchester then dominated the rest of the half and grabbed a goal.
The second half was very end to end with both teams pushing to get a winning goal.
Man on the match was shared between both Daniel for good wing play and skills & Nathanael for his goal.
POP was very one sided, Paul won it, reasons included playing in Salmon branded mountain boots and his luminous clothing

Otters

The Otters took on Wapping’s eleventh team in a very close match in terms of possession, short corners and chances but a few defensive errors and a lack of firepower up front cost us, as we lost 3-0.

A very encouraging performance on the whole, particularly as we were missing a few key players, with a promising debut from Lynn, but clear Man of the Match was 13-year-old Euan with a mature and skilful display in midfield.
