Gameweek 5- Match Reports

Ladies 1s

The lack of ladies 1s match report is less to do with the fact that we lost, and more to do with Hannah Dobbin being away… The result was just 0-1 vs top of the league Burnt Ash.

A good close game with many players getting a player of the match vote. Lucie Fish and Harriet Barber shared the honour… or wait, was it Anna-Marie Parker? Sorry, I knew this yesterday! I do 100% know that I got DOD for hitting the post: at the wrong end. What in the world was I doing in the defensive D anyway?

Ladies 2s

Ladies 2’s earnt their first win of the season today. Yay!

We started livelier than normal and were rewarded with a goal from a short corner which just managed to go over the line. Great work captain😊

The next goal was super! Great passing up the pitch and then a brilliant pass to Kareen who smashed it into the goal. After half time Kareen scored one more and the final score was a well deserved 3-0.

Nicky Vg was voted unanimously as MOM, great work all over the pitch. I was voted POP for being a bit feisty I think, not sure though!

Well done ladies!

Ladies 3s

Well, let’s not worry about the score too much, shall we? (I think it was 10-0?) Lots of positives and lots to build on from yesterday – we just had an off-day…

Ladies 3s played Colne in deepest, darkest Colchester at 1.30pm. We were a little disorganised from the start, resulting in a neat, early goal from Colne. The second goal came as a result of a flick – Martha was perhaps a little too enthusiastic in her desire to stop one of their forwards scoring and, accidentally, floored her. Happens to the best of us.

I won’t go through the other goals in detail but here are the positives and things to work on:

Positives:
– The game was not completely one-sided. There was plenty of play in both halves and we got a few excellent breaks.
– There were some moments of lovely, simple hockey with strong, accurate passes, which is something we’ve been working on for a while.
– They were a lovely team and we enjoyed the game which is, after all, why we play hockey.

Things to work on:
– We need to practise our short corners
– We perhaps need to try some different formations depending on how the game is going – being flexible
– We need to keep fighting for the ball, even after we’ve lost it!

Right, let’s put this behind us and focus on next week!

Men’s 2s

Forest Mens 2s went into this game without a point from their first 4 matches of the season. By the end of the game they had a point, but felt 3 had been on the table. Forest played some good hockey, but again a few costly mistakes in this league were punished by the opposition.

Forest are going to have to continue to battle hard and play fluid and disciplined hockey if they want to stay in this league. But the signs today were positive and more play like this will help the team continue to get results.

Now onto the more important stuff, with Matt O’Hara in the far east testing the locals resolve, and Ben Norton off dreaming again with the 1s, the POP jacket was up for grabs. Luckily Paul Matthews still hasn’t learnt that you need to wear forest green socks when you play in the big leagues. So a costly day and he will also need Amy’s sewing skills!

Mom: We have finally found someone who can score a flick! Matt Tanswell with an exhibition into how to send the keeper the wrong way. Also helps that he’s not Welsh!

Men’s 3s

The men’s 3s played the best we’ve played all season, unfortunately we lost narrowly 1-0 to East London. On another day we could have won the game, but I’m really happy with how we played, everyone worked hard to try and get something out of the game.

Man of the match was very close, Alex just pipped it for having a great game and not getting carded!

POP – Daniel for turning up late and looking like he’d been on the WKDs last night

Men’s 4s

L7-4

Men’s 5s

The 5’s made the early morning trip to Chelmsford for the 10 o’clock push back.

Chelmsford started the better and it took a while for the 5’s into the game, the game had a good flow to it and both teams created chances. The 5’s took the lead late it the first half after Eebbaa play the ball into the D which the keeper failed to deal with and Zain followed up to score from close range (we’re not sure if was 2cm or 2ft)

We took the one goal lead into half time.

The second half started in the worst possible way as Chelmsford equalised early on. the game continue the same as the first half, both teams looking for the winner and both going close.

The game finished 1-1 which on the day was a fair result, with 2 teams playing in the game in right way.

Unfortunately at the end, we did have a incident which I did have to deal with, but I ask you not to discuss that on this forum.

Great effort shown from all players.

MOM: George Fernandez

Donut of the day: Biel Schreuder

Otters

We were duly defeated, 12-0 at Lee Valley, but left with some positives, not least an energetic and pugnacious display in midfield from newcomer Andrew. We expect even better things of him once we’ve got round to explaining all the rules.
