Gameweek 11- Match Reports

Ladies 1s

L1s headed to Lee Valley for a showdown with local rivals and top of the league East London. We knew it was going to be tough and we managed to keep EL out until they scored twice from two short corners.

We rallied at half time and early in the second half a nice move between Lucy Butcher and Philippa Leguen De Lacroix resulted with Lucy scoring to get us back in the game. Unfortunately, EL pressed on and some smart play resulted in two more goals. Final score 4-1 to EL.

So we lost, but special mention for Fish who launched her stick to successfully intercept a ball. Also Izzy and Lydia for the strange changing room shuffle entrance as they had their shoelaces tied together.

Ladies 2s

(Written by Nicky VG) Ladies 2 played away at East London on this chilly Saturday morning. We came out with a very strong team and were hoping to get some points.

We started off strong with lots of passes and forward play, setting ourselves up for success. After a couple of chances and being consistently dangerous in East London’s D, Emily made a great run and scored our first goal 0-1. East London tried to break on a few occasions with long ball down the side-lines, but these attempts were broken down by great defending by Nicky Yeates, Kate and Dee.

We started our second half even stronger and more confident and despite not scoring from our short corners, we were dominating the game. Emma scored our second goal from an assist by Emily 0-2. A few minutes before full time, we briefly lost our composure and East London scored their first goal from a short corner 1-2.

Things that went well for us today; setting up the press- this really confused East London and made them play balls straight into our sticks. Short easy passes and transferring the ball- we keep going from strength to strength with this and it shows in the results. Great game girls!

MOM- Emily

POP- Kate for your dramatic and amazing fall to the floor

Ladies 3s

The ladies 3s today faced East London at home in the beautiful winter sunshine. After a strong start, we conceded two goals in quick succession, putting us 2-0 down at half time.

After half time, we conceded another three goals – two messy and one excellent. The defence as always put in a stellar effort, defending short after short with energy and skill.

A cracking pass from Charlotte was received beautifully by Jane, who skilfully put it past the keeper, making the score 5-1.

Unfortunately, we then conceded two more, one in the dying seconds of the game. Final score 7:1 to East London.

MOM: Charlotte, for managing to be brilliant and everywhere.

Ladies 4s

Ladies 4s played away at Old Loughts today.

An excellent game with some fantastic play. I couldn’t be happier or prouder.

Final score WF 3-0 OLHC

Well done to Minty for scoring 2 goals (hat-trick avoidance?) And also, well done to Vicky Bean for the other goal.

Special thanks to Martha for playing for us in goal at such short notice straight after playing for Ladies 3s (and to Martha’s mum for driving her there!)

Player of the match goes to Katie Barr and Vicky Bean, well done girls.

Well done everyone.

Goooooo FOREST!!

Men’s 1s

L5-0

Men’s 2s

Men’s 2s played Crostyx 1s today, what we will remember from the game: Paul Matthews still hasn’t worked out that he needs to stop bringing Amy to teas. Ash is not invincible, despite being the human embodiment of the Hulk. Yogi Patel and Ed Bear Stubbing need to communicate better and not have a hug in their own D. Gedas thinks he is at a wrestle mania where he can perform a Shooting Star Press. Davis McCarthy only performs when the 1s are watching. Kristis Bubnelis is not the best Lithuanian at WFHC! Jonathan Jones skills are only good on a Thursday night (and that’s a reach). Luce is a great defender now he is in his later years. Liam Radley spends way too much time on his hair. Horace, where the hell have you been this season? Matt Tanswell spends his free time dressing his kids and himself in matching onesies for professional photo shoots, and still isn’t better than his brother.

Good luck to Tim Boxall who is getting married today!

Mom: Kristis, the least worse international on the pitch.

Pop: Yogi and Ed for a defensive mix up the likes of which no one has ever seen!

We lost 5-3 🙁

Men’s 3s

The men’s 3s faced Harlow yesterday in what was a very close game. They went 1-0 up but we battled back to go 2-1 up, the first a great move from Daniel and Jon with Jon tapping in from close range. The second was a great bit of skill from Zain hitting a diving shot that looped over the goalie.

Unfortunately in the second half we didn’t make the most of our chances on goal, Harlow had two clear chances and they scored from them. We kept pushing till the final minutes to get level but it just wasn’t going to be our day. Final score 3-2

MOM – Rob for a good display in centre mid

Men’s 4s

L6-1

Men’s 5s

The Men’s 5’s went into the match against a strong Chelmsford 5’s on the back of 2 poor performances.

The match did end in being a 3-0 defeat, but as captain as please with the way we played and the effort shown by all, which has given me encouragement for the rest of the season.

We were still in the game with about 5 minutes to go but twice got caught on the break looking for the equaliser.

Special mentions to Andrew Falk on his debut with a MOM of match display and for Tom Web who pulled of some outstanding saves. There was also a welcome return for Gino Porky Toumazi after a long break due to injury.

Otters

The Otters achieved a very comfortable win against Romford 3. There were first goals for William Farrow and Andy Lightfoot, but we spurned plenty of other chances including 2 penalty flicks while Romford didn’t manage a single shot, as it finished 2-0. Man of the Match was Euan as he dominated the middle of the pitch with a mature performance.

Goal scorers: William Farrow and Andy Lightfoot
