Men’s 3

Men’s 3s contra Thurrock 4-2 win.

Scorers: Biel, Immy and Adam with 2

With our promotion hopes dwindling, we required a win in order to keep the pressure on Southend yellows. We started in dominant fashion. Keeping possession in the oppos half. We got a short early on which was well executed and finished by Biel from the left hand post. But then we lost focus and from to shorts in quick succession allowed Thurrock to take the lead. After an emotional half time talk, we dominated throughout the second half. Thurrock didn’t get a single shot on target. With skill throughout the team we broke their defensive lines multiple times; but Adam wouldn’t shoot. But Adam eventually got the goals he deserved; one from a penalty flick, the other from a reverse on a short. Late in the game, Viv dribbled though the entire team and then smashed the ball to Immy who hit its deflection into the goal.

With Ben Rai-green back from South Korea and Ben Frith-Salem back from the states were full strengthened to compete against Clacton and Plashet

Ladies 4s

Ladies 4’s communal match report:

Welcome back Grace from 14 weeks of injury! And Sarah from months of Panto tour!

As instructed by coach Pricey we brought the game to Old Loughts today AND got an early-ish goal.

Great teamwork and confident skills from everyone on the pitch.

Just before the whistle for half time a determined Mel brought the ball into the D took on the keeper relentlessly until Grace was able to put it away.

Second half saw lots of short and long corners at both ends. Great saves from Martha and attacking pressure from both sides. Just before the whistle for full time Grace set up Mel to put away our second goal!!!

We held firm while Loughts did their best to fight back but we finished 2:0 and a very happy squad.

Player of match : Grace

Goals : Mel and Grace

Fantastic teas

(Additional shout out to Jabba for consuming 4 sausages x )

M2s

So, managed to share a cheeky Tequila / Sambuca shot followed by a pineapple juice chaser with the Ladies 3’s today. That is a taste sensation! Quite what they were still doing at Wadham Lodge some 4.5 hours after their push back also deserves serious respect!!!

What about the game I hear you ask? Well, we played a strong Wapping side pushing for top of the league and started poorly conceding 2 goals in rather quick sensation. Couldn’t fault our effort today chaps, we rallied and held them for the rest of the half. We were desperate to score today and whilst we really tried second half to cross their goal line, we conceded on the break several times to eventually lose 0:6. Despite the score line we did play some good hockey today and are much stronger now than at the start of the season. Thanks Jack Rumbold for that bit of quality today. Now, back to those Tequila’s……..

Men’s 2s

Another grudge match against rivals Redbridge, with a make shift defence and a bare 11 we all had to put in a shift. We did exactly that and went into half time 1-0 up after Matt fired in from a shortie.

One error at the start of the second half allowed Redbridge to get one back. But we kept pressing them and creating chances, our defence were tested with multiple short corners in the final minutes but we held out to get a 1-1 draw.

MOM – Andrew Falk for great game down the right wing

POP – Rob Martin for refusing to shoot when he was 1 on 1 with the keeper

With Yogi not around for the next 2 weeks, I speak for everyone in the 2s in saying thank you for stepping in as captain!!

Ladies 1s

MASSIVE news! Ladies 1s won 5-1. Yes that’s correct, we scored 5 goals in one game!! This takes us into positive goal difference for the first time this season!

Once everyone arrived (Nicky Vg got the wrong game time!!) and got the balls (Fi Pennie had left them in the van!) we had a very short warm up and were straight into the game, no messing about!

We had a rather scrappy goal line scramble early on that I eventually managed to put in! Then Isabelle Scerri scored two great goals and nearly got an impressive 3rd with a shoulder height volley, but it went just wide!

We were 3-0 up at half time.

They scored.

We continued to work hard which resulted in a chance, that I managed to take. 4-1!

Harriet then, rather elegantly finished her goal to make it 5!!!

Special shout out to the forwards today, Philippa, Faith, Kirsten & Izzy!

Well played ladies – such an enjoyable win!!!

MoM – Izzy! What a game you had!!

DoD – Nicky VG. Oops.
