Match Reports (Previous Seasons)

4th March 2017

Ladies 1s

L1s headed to Havering for a six pointer(!?) match. With a few players slightly on the edge after the opposite of a quiet night in we had an interesting warm-up with Amy York pulling some shapes and Izzy being flummoxed by the tree not once but twice.

Anyway, the game started pretty evenly with both sides having a few chances but failing to score 0-0 at half time. Second half much the same but Havering made the most of a short and went 1-0 up. We had a few chances but couldn’t pull it back so we lost.

MoM and DoD is going on virtually but looks like joint MoM Izzy and Katrina Hurrell DoD Lucy Butcher see photo although mention for Fish who put her McDonald’s in a Tupperware box last night

Ladies 2s

L3-2

Ladies 3s

Ladies 3’s played home today against Havering.

We WON 6-0 the end 😮

We scored so many I’ve realised I’m not even sure who put them in the net (yes really ladies please enlighten me!)

Not mentioning the oppo only had 9 players…. but still we were awesome! A bit bunched up in the first half, but everyone took on board the half time talk from our injured Katie Barraclough and came out a different team in the second half. Great team work ladies! A big thanks to Rosemarie for playing in goal and making an awesome save!

Attendance at teas was dire so no player of the match yet…ladies hurry up and send me your nominations!! 😉

Ladies 4s

Ladies 4s played away against Redbridge and Ilford this afternoon . We were a bit thrown at the beginning so Redbridge went into an early lead. But we recovered and played well and put a lot of our training into practice Jonesy would have been proud, with sweeps and pivots, and even stopping the ball on the reverse. But sadly it wasn’t to be this week and despite the half time oranges and trying to sound scary at short corners they won 2-0.

Men’s 1s

D2-2

Men’s 2s

The Men’s 2s’ day started largely as it carried on; badly, when half the team were taken on a tour of Chingford so Paul could retrieve the POP jacket he’d forgotten. Indeed, the hottest contest of the day was not on the hockey field, but for said jacket. There were many outstanding POP-worthy moments, including when Rob “Best Right Back in the Club” Martin realised, to his shock, that the 2s were 15 points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table, needing a win today to realistically keep the relegation battle alive.

On the pitch, Forest started well, heeding Skipper Jones’ words of encouragement and pressing the West Herts back four into several mistakes. A few half chances fell our way, but pressure at the other end eventually told. Several short corners conceded and the half time score found us 2-0 down.

Tired legs in the second half conspired against us, as West Herts bagged a few more goals, despite some stellar defending. Luce attempted the best tackle of the season in an effort to prevent a certain goal. Unfortunately, he tackled the right-hand post, and they scored anyway.

Forest highlights of the half included a Tim Boxall air shot and Paul adding to his POP credentials with a green card. The moment of the half came when Nate Last rolled two defenders in the D with some great skill, before slotting through the keeper’s legs on the reverse. Final score 6-1.

Post match, there was a late POP contender when Chap realised he’d left his clean underwear in the car. In an attempt to salvage the situation, he instructed Dan Clark to go and fetch the required garments. Unmoved by the predicament, Dan politely declined. Cue Chap fashioning the strangest “diaper” (his words, not mine) I’ve ever seen, out of his WF shirt, no less.,

So despite the aforementioned efforts, it was Captain Jones who took home the POP jacket, largely for steering the 2s to an (almost inevitable, but still mathematically avoidable) first relegation in living memory.

And we didn’t see Ed Sheeran this week.

Men’s 3s

The Men’s 3’s played Romford today.

Our performance was like today’s weather: a bright start, with some dark patches, on an overall bright day. However, the goals we conceded in the dark patches outnumbered those we scored in the brighter periods.

Highlights included green cards for Immy, Joe and Ed (all very talkative), Zayn Malik’s potential goal of the season (one handed reverse chip over the keeper) and Steve Hare lasting a full match.

We lost 7-5. A good performance. Onwards and upwards for Brentwood next week…,

Mom: David Stark for some solid work in midfield

Pop: Joe or Ed. (Most likely green card related)

Goals: Imran Arshad, Zain Rashid, Alex Gynn (x2), Joe Russo

Men’s 4s

Match Report

Fixture: Havering 3s vs WFHC 4s (4th from bottom vs 5th top)

Pushback: 2:30pm

Venue: Campion School

Weather: Threatening Rain

Fact of the Day: The underused word ‘havering’ is, loosely, another word for being indecisive.

Very kind of Hannah Dobbin to write both WFHC L1s and M4s match reports:

“the game started pretty evenly with both sides having a few chances but failing to score 0-0 at half time. Second half much the same but Havering made the most of a short and went 1-0 up. We had a few chances but couldn’t pull it back so we lost.”

That’s really helped me out as having found my Fact of the Day before the game, I had to scrap my match report when we couldn’t hold out for the draw.

My line about the result being ‘havering’ and both teams leaving with a point being totally ruined.

Man of the Match,

– Martin: Commanded his D (careful) excellently, darting out to accurately clear a number of dangerous loose balls/passes, plus good few saves and nothing he could do about the goal.

Men’s 5s

The 5’s were left frustrated after a 3-2 loss to Old Southendian. The 5’s dominated the 1st half but found themselves 2 down midway through it. Steve Mills then scored his 1st and his second for the club making to it 2-2 at half time.

The second half was much of the same but the 5’s couldn’t find the goal some of the play deserved. With Old Southendian young keeper pulling of some great saves.

As the 5’s looked for a winner, old Southendian used their experience and exploited the space left by the 5’s to make it 3-2.

The 5’s had to play the last 7 minutes without a keeper due to illness but still dominated the game.

Great effort shown by all but we made a number and remember we win and lose as a team.

Otters

The Otter’s played top of the league Tower hamlets who are unbeaten. We lost 8-0 ,The score line will hide what was an excellent performance by the Otter’s. Having lost by 12 in each previous meeting against this opposition a single figure defeat was the target. We achieved that, conceding just four in each half, and they had to fight for each one as we were strong in the tackle, organised and committed, with individual performances to be proud of throughout the team
