Match Reports (Previous Seasons)

Ladies 1s

L1s won! I repeat L1s won!

L1s headed to top of the league Burnt Ash. The journey started slightly precariously when the Fish-mobile’s brakes went, luckily we made it safely. Then there was drama in the changing room when Claire Shrimpie Boyling took the toilet door off, who knew she was so strong! And Faith was confused about pretty much everything.

Anyway, we started the game strong with some smart passing and we closed them down well. Both teams had some short corners but we went 0-1 up when the youth combined; Izzy followed up a rebound from shot by Lydia.

Burnt Ash came out strong in the second half but Katherine Abbie shot at goal, started celebrating, hit the post then launched herself at the rebound which did go in, 0-2 up!

Then Burnt Ash scored off a short, Shrimpie got carded, not that Katrina Hurrell noticed, and the defence held out a barrage of shorts at the final whistle.

Final score 1-2 to us! Hooray!

Ladies 3s

Ladies 3’s played home to Thurrock today. The game was pretty even in terms of play and the final score didn’t reflect our effort, persistence and team work (despite our consistently changing team!). Defence were strong and there was some lovely passing play up the pitch, with Amy scoring in second half 🙂

We were a bit ‘leany’ (is that a word?!) and got a bit of a telling off from the umpire (oops) we like to think we are just passionate 😉

Final score 4-1 to Thurrock. Two of their goals were corkers, but two were a bit dubious, one was hit just outside the D and the other came off their attacker’s foot in the D, neither seen by the umpires so sadly luck was not on our side today.

Player of the match goes to Zoe.

We are improving each week, so next week ladies!!….

Ladies 4s

The Ladies 4s played Romford 2’s today, despite traffic jams and sat nav issues we all made it in time and…won 9-0 !!! A fantastic effort by everyone, a hat trick for Minty two for Kwai one a piece for Katie and Trixie and two for Melanie ! Well done everyone!

Men’s 1s

L3-1

Men’s 2s

With the team languishing at the bottom of the east division 2s we simply HAD to win to stay up.

We started strong but with a mere 11 men and a few basic errors we found ourselves down. Some moments of brilliance but even the most poetic match reporter would struggle to sell the result. 7-0

On a plus we used the post-match teas to ensure all team members are fully baptised into the various football leagues and rulebook. Note the Worthington cup has now been rebranded.

MOM to Jones for some morale boosting halftime team talk and thank you to Steve Hare for crossing counties on a moped.

We lost

Men’s 3s

The men’s 3s played top of the table east London today, for the majority of the game we outplayed them, but it was one of those games where the score line didn’t reflect the game. Final score was 7-0 to them.

Well played to every single player who gave their all and battled to the end. Thank you to Jon, Ian and Neil who stepped up to play.

Zain didn’t score on and off the pitch…

MOM – Jon for a great game in midfield

POP – Thomas for thinking the 11:30 pushback was a meet time

Men’s 4s

Fixture: Maldon 2s vs WFHC M4s (2nd vs 3rd)

Pushback: Actually can’t remember now

Venue: Maldon and Tiptree FC

Weather: 7.2/10

Fact of the Day: Maldon, Essex, UK is not to be confused with Maldon, Middlesex, USA.

With more bare 11s across the men’s sides than should be allowed within the constraints of the law, a fully clothed M4s 11 travelled to the relatively picturesque Maldon, who were 2pts above the 4s.

The game was an intense affair but a slow start with a high number of turnovers by Forest lead to Maldon taking the lead. Fortunately M4s were able to up there game with a tidy bit of poaching from the returning Frank Dijkstra.

In the second half M4s continued to create chances whilst a savvy Maldon side continued to threaten by going for short corners where they could.

Forest’s play shone through and after I shot limply at the keeper Alex ‘Joga Bonito’ Heath was on hand to nutmeg him and give us a 2-1 lead.

Unfortunately Forest were unable to take their many chances and Maldon eventually scored again from a short (which possibly should have been disallowed as was a hit above backboard).

A few more opportunities left untaken a thoroughly enjoyable game ended 2-2, probably a fairish result.

Match highlight: Gary Joy had noted the excellent teas on offer at Malden HC in his pre-match email. This was vital in light of what happened in the final minutes. Inspired by Oliver’s tantrum the week before, but unable to sub himself off due to the bare 11, Gary instead ensured he was dismissed from the field of play early by an official and thus able to make his way quicker than any other player to the aforementioned teas.

MOTM:

Samir Akram (managed to skilfully, and sometimes physically, prevent their very quick, short corner machine from winning too many shorts)

Men’s 5s

L4-0

Otters

The Otters played well away at 3rd-placed Royals, with Ahmet solid in defence and Man of the Match Adam dominating central midfield. The Royals exploited a half-chance on the counter-attack and that proved to be the only scoring. Light in attackers and short on fresh legs we had plenty of possession but lacked a cutting edge to get us back into the game.
