Match Reports (Previous Seasons)

1st April 2017

Ladies 1s

A valiant effort by the ladies 1s in their last game of the season!

Fish left home without her stick, got taken out by the sandpit and was off for the rest of the game, Kat’s back went, I got hit on the foot and looks potentially broken, Izzy got her first green card, Emma was hungover and looked whiter than the colour of the sand, Shrimpie drove beautifully both on and off the pitch, Lucy thought she stayed in but actually went out out, the sun was certainly out out, and Lucie Fish ate cold spaghetti before and after the game and then according to the team sheet scored but it was actually mine.

In the end we lost 2-1 and have finished comfortably in mid table! 😀 Roll on end of season social and dinner dance!

Ladies 2s

Ladies 3s

Ladies 4s

Ladies 4s travelled to a warm and sunny Southend today to play our final game of the season. We fought really hard in the first half and played some really great hockey (Jonesy would have been proud!).

At half time Rosemarie brought out the jelly babies for a half time pick me up.
In the second half, we came out fighting and started as we meant to go on, first with goal from Minty, then 2 more followed shortly after from, 1 from Katie and 1 from Kwai. We were definitely the stronger team and that shone through as brightly as the sun.

Final score WFHC 3-0 Southend.

Mom – Katie Barr

Our win today had also pushed us up one spot in the league so we find ourselves finishing strong and safe at 6th.

After having some (very) bad losses early in the season we have really turned it around, I’m so proud of everyone, what a great season!

Thank you to my team for the beautiful tulips and card.

Thank you to Jonesy for coaching us and sticking with us through the cold even with the frequent poor turn out.

Men’s 1s

Men’s 2s

Men’s 3s

The men’s 3s lost out 5-3 to old southendians despite a strong second half performance. This late in the season I was able to give a debut to young Uzair Pandor.
Match highlights including me taking out the keeper and Uzair missing a flick!

Goal scorers were Alex, Imran and myself.

MOM – James and Kieran

POP – Zain for car related crimes and his interesting take on one handed tackles

With results still to come in and some games being played next week we still don’t know if we have escaped relegation. But whatever happens a big thank you to all my players, it’s been a pleasure to captain you this year!

Men’s 4s

Men’s 5s

The 5’s played their last match of the season and hosted Romford 2’s (with a few -1’s) at the Academy for the first push back of the day.

Despite plenty of great support on the side-lines the 5’s started slowly and to say it was only downhill from there is probably an understatement. Romford grabbed a couple of early goals from open play and and a strike from a well taken short and quickly went 3-0 up and I think that’s how the first half finished.

Dennis Taylor vs Steve Davis 1985
Botham’s Ashes Series in 1981
France vs All Blacks – World Cup Semi Final 1999
Man U vs Bayern Munich 1999
Europe’s Ryder Cup victory in 2012
Liverpool vs Ac Milan 2005
New England Patriots Super Bowl 2017
Barcelona vs PSG 2017

Could the Men’s 5’s be added to the above list of great sporting comebacks. No

To be fair, the 5’s rallied in the second half and at times spent long periods in the oppo’s half with Owen Doody scoring his first for the season but the clinical break away finishing from Romford just proved too much today and so let’s not worry about the final score – other then we got 1.

After promotion last year and a few players moving teams the 5’s have had a tough season but have always fought to the end and have played with great spirit. We have had some excellent performances with the highlight probably being our win against a good Brentwood side recently. A big thanks to all the players who have helped us this year, a special thanks to Shrimpie for the fabulous coaching and onward we go to next season.

Otters

A very end-of-season performance from the Otters saw us fall to a 7-0 defeat against a competent Southend side. On the bright side were promising debuts from Travis and Hassan, and the fact that we managed to take a reasonable team photo for once.

Mixed

The final mixed game of the season was played this afternoon. Long story short, we signed off with a 4-2 win over London Royals. Goals from Kareen (2), Jonesy and Dan.,

A huge special end of season thank you to Katrina who has consistently managed to help me get enough players for games with minutes to spare sometimes!

Also big mentions to a young and dazzling Ray Russo who made his season’s debut with a spirited match up front and later in defence.

And to the legendary (too strong?!) Ed Bear Stubbing who has possibly (probably) played his last game for the club

Finally, thank you to those of you who kept turning out for the mixed team through rain and shine, hammerings and occasional victories! Keep an eye out for the summer events – especially the Redbridge tournament on Saturday 3rd June.
