Ladies 1s

L1s win again! 2-1 at home to Gore Court.

Not the best game we’ve ever played but another important win. Good news is Emma Haward’s dramatic fall over wasn’t half as serious as she made out, Lucy Butcher and Lucie Fish scored lovely worked goals, I’m still not allowed to play in defence and Ashley-Mark Perhat makes wonderful brownies!

Special mention to the L4s for being the best support squad ever!

MoM Anna-Marie Parker and Amy

DoD amazingly not Emma but Mog for pointing out an obvious FOOT! which everyone else had also spotted, no flies on her

Ladies 3s

So Ladies 3’s played home today to (second to top of the league) Old Southendians. We only went and WON!!! Final score 1:0 (and a truly pissed off oppo!). There was some seriously good play from us all, great passing, good communication, and tireless effort! It truly was a team effort and we dominated the game. Honestly ladies our improvement since the start of the season is fantastic! Notable mentions go to Sarah for scoring the winning goal and Ros for player of the match! 🙂 thanks for a great game….did I say we WON!! 😉

Ladies 4s

Ladies 4s took on Wapping ladies 7s for the 2nd time this season. On home turf and wanting to improve on our huge 20-0 loss, bruises, and broken toes of the first time, we went out wanting the win. We played some great hockey and deserved a better finish for how hard we fought. Final score 8-1 to Wapping.

We would have scored 2 more if someone had been there just give it a little touch before it went in but those goals weren’t meant to be. A massive improvement on last time, no broken bones, and much bruises. We played really well as a team.

Well done to our goal scorer Vicky. Gooooo Forest !!

Men’s 4s

Fixture: WFHC M4s vs Upminster 4s (3rd top vs 3rd bottom)

Pushback: 10am

Venue: L’Académie

Weather: Mild

Fact of the Day: The most notable thing about Upminster, that it is the birthplace of musician Ian Drury, is actually not true.

There is an old football adage wheeled out by immaculately shined football pundits, your Alan Shearers and Danny Murphys, the adage that a top team wins when they play well but a top top team wins when they are playing badly.

Had the first half ended 3-3 to Upminster that would have been seen as, if anything, a little unlucky for Upminster but… it ended 3-0 to Forest.

The scoring started with a lovely Ben Summers trademark (hockey) stick between the legs deflection off a Frank Dijkstra short, followed by goals from Alex ‘Pippo’ Heath and Gary Joy. Gary absolutely smashed a ball travelling across the D into the roof of the net – oh no sorry that was his second half own goal. The goal at the right end was a Heathesque tap-in meaning the three goals were from a combined distance of about 3.46mm.

Despite receiving the rocket of Joy at half time no lessons were learnt and continued turnovers meant the squeakiest last 5mins this season! Despite the squeakiness Forest held on to grind out a 3-2 win. I can now confirm the M4s are a top top team.

Thanks to Ferg Heath, Immy and Horace Keating for filing in for some key missing 4s players!

Men of the Match

– Goes to Thomas Webb for a fantastic all round performance which included a stunning foot stretch to stop the ball going to an Upminster player lurking on the post in the final minutes.

– And also a man who wouldn’t look out of place between Mr Murphy and Mr Shearer, he put in a captain’s performance (as always) also showing great control, tackling and passing as well as getting a crucial goal. Well played Gary Joy!
