Ladies 1s

L1s took on Ashford today. After insisting on going in the men’s changing rooms, they were smart though weren’t they Lucy, taking the micky out of Emma Haward’s fashion sense and posing for a team photo before realising we didn’t have anyone to take a photo we got going!

We had a good start with some nice passing. Philippa Leguen De Lacroix was put through, composed herself before taking a sweet strike which put us 1-0 up. We kept the pressure up and Emma got us another one with a lifted sweep (is that what it’s called?!). 2-0 at half time.

We made hard work of the second half and Ashford got one back from a short. Lucy Butcher took a dramatic fall, luckily Faith was there to carry her off so she could walk back on. Ended 2-1 to us!

MoM Anna-Marie Parker

DoD Emma for her outfit and suggesting she rubs people up although a post-vote mention for Lucy who took out the sign in LV reception much to the disapproval of the security man.

Ladies 2s

The Ladies 2’s took on Brentwood at the Academy this morning. The weather was great and we were all linking up very nicely to create a number of chances, Emily just hitting the wrong side of the post and Nicky Vg the crossbar, but unfortunately, we couldn’t quite get the ball over the line!

Luckily neither did they so it finished 0-0.

MOM was Nicky Y for an awesome defensive display and DoD was Kareen for hitting the ball off the cross bar and it bouncing back in her own face!

Ladies 3s

Something happened to Ladies 3’s today…we went out wanting to win with a FIRE in our bellies! We felt like a team, we played like a team, with some good solid hockey and great passing. Everyone put in 100% and it showed. Brentwood expected a walk over, they didn’t get one! Team work culminated in two amazing goals by Helen. Sadly, Brentwood got one more in the net than us, so final score 3:2 to Brentwood. Player of the match went to Kim who seemed to have 120% fire in her belly today! I felt very proud of our team today, hmm maybe this captaining lark is growing on me 😉

Ladies 4s

Ladies 4s match report from Sian..

“Match analysis from my daughter: I liked it, shame it was zero

I think we can be proud of some of the hockey we played. And great support from the side line! Sophie I hope your foot is okay.”

Totally agree with all of that so nothing to add expect the final score

Waltham Forrest 2nd X1 vs Wapping 3s

11/03/2017

Match report by Robin Martin

In 2008 Barack Obama soared to power in the United States talking about, amongst many things “the audacity of hope.”

Nope me neither.

Nonetheless as Waltham Forrest entered the second half with a 4-0 deficit the home side dared to do just that. With nervous whispering and a poetic rabble rousing speech from Jon Jones we wondered: could Forrest emulate a Barcelona comeback???

No.

0-10

And with that it now becomes mathematically impossible for the 2s to stay up. Or to put it another way, barring the implosion of any of the league sides due to Leyton Orient style financial mismanagement we will be demoted.

Nonetheless I would like to commend all the players who have turned up, fought, and provided brilliant Saturday entertainment. And to our Captain for digging deep, very deep with limited numbers to field.

Jones – lets pick up offline on my 2/3/4 merging plan.

Next stop – Yogis end of season barbecue,

Men’s 3s

WFHC Men’s 3s match report

We won 2-1 against Brentwood. Close game but we held our own scoring 2 in the first half. First came from David Stark and a classy top corner finish from Imran Arshad.

Mom: David for his goal and good performance

Pop: Joe Russo for getting done by an 80 year old.

Despite playing well the last few games this was our first win since 14th Jan and definitely a needed one.

Men’s 4s

Fixture: WFHC 4s vs Old Southendian 4s (5th top vs 2nd bottom)

Pushback: 1pm

Venue: De Academie

Weather: Sunny enough to remind you why hockey is a winter sport

Fact of the Day: I once went on a primary school field trip to Southend and I thought it was one of the worst places I’d ever been.

When we played Old Southendians away their goalkeeper forgot his shorts and had to be driven home by their sweeper, leaving their bare 11 two players short (to borrow a joke from a past week – had the keeper not gone for his shorts they would have been a bare 10 and a half).

For Saturday’s fixture the goalkeeper was on time and instead four outfield players were late – which is probably fortunate because in the away game they went 2-0 up with 9 men.

As a result the away side started with a firmly parked bus, and the bus didn’t really leave its allocated parking space for the rest of the game.

Despite this Forest stayed calm and composed, constantly switching the play across the back line.

It didn’t take too long for Frank Dijkstra to tuck a short into the far corner. Then I managed to pounce on a Ben Summers deflection to put the ball in from another Frank short. Like a stuck record Frank then repeated an identical short corner to the first.

At halftime Gary ‘Redknapp’ Joy raised his concern that we were letting the opposition into the game towards the end of the half: “from world beaters to apprentice panel beaters”. (Next week perhaps it could actually rhyme properly?)

Forest upped their game in the second half with Old Southendians barely having a hit, you know their heads are down when Ben S does one of their youngsters for pace.

A brilliant one-two between Alex and Frank gave Frank his hattrick with a shot into an empty goal – Sami dubbing it ‘the sort of sweaty goal you score on FIFA’

The half continued with Alex ‘Pirlo’ Heath finding the wide players with ease and creating shed loads of opportunities.

Ben ‘Alex Heath in disguise’ Frith-Salem poached another. Jon and I linked up to end Jon’s goal ‘drought’. Frank then buried a lovely first time shot from a Sami hit in.

All’s well that ends 7-0

Shout out to Oliver ‘Jurgen’ Loessl who surely could claim an assist for his excellent work from the touchline and to Sami for coming a clear second place in the voting for MOTM

Man of the Match

Frank: As pointed out by most who voted great team performance but you’ve got to give to a player who scores 4, especially when they get the goal fest started with a number of accurate strikes from shorts

Men’s 5s

Today’s match report is brought to you from best-selling author and syndicated columnist Biel Schreuder.

As we approached the dystopian Brentwood. We realise that we are not just fighting for a pride or against relegation; we are fighting for our culture and our way of life we will not be intimidated by the superior facilities will not be drowned but the air melancholy erupted from last week’s natural disaster. but we will fight and run and never give out the hopes of staying in division 8.

The whistle blew. Forest passing the ball about like ketchup at the chippy keeping control, Brentwood couldn’t break through the albeit small walls of Andrew and Reece. After a goalless 20 minutes Gino with creative Aries bounced passed every Brentwood defender to Mick. Mick sees the young prospect running into the D leaving every defender breathless. Biel runs at the keeper that is in awe of Biels wizardry. Biel tricks the ball round the keeper into the net 1-0.

In the second-half Brentwood have control. After multiple breaks down the wing. A ball enters the path of a talented Morgan. He shoots the ball like an arrow dipping into the bottom corner 2-0.

After two debatable green cards. Andrew, Ebbe and Adam play it down the left. Adam with impeccable vision passes it to the talisman, Biel in the D. Biel brings it onto his weak side and slots it home.

After Brentwood scored a short. We attacked again. As if we had morphed into one being we dominated every area and aspect of the game.

Reece lays and neat ball to the golden boy and future face of England hockey. Biel takes it round the keeper again AND WOULD HAVE SLOT IT HOME IF ONLY STEVE DIDNT STEAL MY HAT-TRICK.

Full time 4-2. And as we won the golden boy shall dye his hair golden.,

Otters

While a narrow 2-0 defeat at home against second in the table Wapping does some justice to the Otters performance it masks the fact that for long periods we were the better side and felt disappointed to lose. We conceded from a short corner at the end of the first and early in the second half but With Alastair constantly driving us forward down the right, and Emran and Irfan dominating central midfield we attacked with increasing purpose throughout the second half. Spurred on by great vocal support from the side-lines in the afternoon sunshine we created enough chances to get back in it but never quite managed to find the net.
