For the 5th year in a row, Waltham Forest Hockey
Club has been asked to train the borough squad for the London Youth
Games. This will be running alongside the club's standard training
on Tuesday nights with the best non-county players from Yr 9 and under
training hard as they prepare to take on the rest of London in June.
If you are interested in becoming part of this squad, please let us
know.
Joining Youth Hockey...
YOUTH training is on TUESDAY EVENINGS for children
aged 8 to 14.
For under 8s we also run monthly training on Saturday
mornings while children over 14 feed in to our adult sides.
If you would like to come along to our Youth training,
please contact Matt Lovell: youth@walthamforesthc.co.uk or 07909
913121 in advance so that we know to expect you. You'll need to
let us know your name, age & whether you've played before.
Whether or not you have ever played hockey before,
come down for a Tuesday session and give it a go!
For both boys and girls, it's a great way to keep fit, have fun
and make new friends.
It's a great sport - the 3rd largest team sport in the country.
WHERE? Walthamstow Academy,
Billet Road, Walthamstow, E17 5DP
WHEN? Tuesdays from 7pm to 8pm. (September
to July)
Sessions have been running since Feb 2006 - you are
welcome to join at anytime during the year. It's best to make sure
that you have emailed or phoned to let us know you are coming.
You will need:
- Astro trainers - or trainers with very good grips
- A hockey stick! But don't worry if you don't have one - we have
plenty
you can borrow on the day
- We also advise shin pads and a gum shield (£3-4 from most
sports shops)
Youth training is currently FREE...!! Our
thanks to Walthamstow
Academy and all our volunteers at WFHC for making this possible!
Youth Dates
Sept 6th 2011 to early July 2012. (No sessions over Easter)
Tournaments
We currently enter u8, u10, u12 and u14 tournaments within
the Essex Alliance Sports League. See main club's fixtures
page for dates of upcoming youth tournaments.
Youth Awards
The club awards two main awards to youth players each season:
Most Improved Youth Player - to the player who has shown the greatest improvement this season.
Youth Player of the Season - to the player who has excelled at hockey, both in terms of ability but also in terms of effort, attitude and generally being recognised as a great member of the WF youth section.
Previous winners can be found on the main club's Roll of Honour Page
Youth players can also aspire to play for the county.
Our club feeds into the Essex Hockey Association, and our players
are eligible to attend Essex Trials each season and go on and represent
the County. In the 2011-12 season, a record 13 of our players made
it in to the Essex Academy squads.
Thanks to CHAPS:
Central Heating And Plumbing Supplies for sponsoring our youth kit
for 2012-2014!
